Facebook Launches ‘Groups for Schools’

Facebook has launched a new service called ‘Groups for Schools’. This allows teachers and students to collaborate together and share un-copyrighted files between each other. It plans to make it easier for students to share notes or for teachers to hand out files to their classes. It will be possible to have individual sections inside each school allowing for clubs, sports teams and even individual classes. It is currently only available to US schools, but Facebook to plan to launch this internationally soon.

It looks like this could be a good feature of Facebook and allow safe communication between teachers and students. My only concern would be that the majority of schools have Facebook blocked so it may not be ideal for use in the classroom, but could offer an alternative to often over complicated school VLE systems.
